
Wayman is a live demo sculptor and performance artist whose work transforms sculpture into an immersive public experience. Specializing in figurative sculpture, he brings iconic historical and cultural figures to life in real time, captivating audiences as portraits of leaders such as Harriet Tubman, Thurgood Marshall, and Elijah Cummings emerge before their eyes. Through live sculpting demonstrations, Wayman invites viewers into the creative process, turning public spaces into moments of reflection, connection, and storytelling.
His live performances and exhibitions have been featured at major arts and community events including the American Craft Fair-in Baltimore Claywork’s stall (2023, 2024), Baltimore Artscape (2025), Associated Black Charities Annual Gala (2025), the BOPA Free Fall event at the Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center (2025), and Anne Arundel Community College (2025). Rooted in historical, social, and spiritual themes, Wayman’s work centers the resilience, legacy, and lived experiences of the Black community.
Wayman is the recipient of numerous honors and fellowships, including the 2025 BOPA Free Fall Grant, the 2023–24 EMBARC Fellowship, the Openshaw Fellowship, the Mary Sawyers Imboden Prize, and the inaugural 2025 Prism Award for Health Equity. His work has been featured both nationally and internationally in publications including America Magazine, U.S. Catholic, The Catholic Review, The Black Catholic Messenger, and The Capital Gazette, as well as in the documentary film Outlasting Clay.
